How to Use and FAQ

How to use Guitar Time with Ben!

Each "Lecture" is a new lesson. There are 10 in total.

Choose to go through one lesson a week with your kids or spend even longer on it if needed. Some of the concepts (such as learning to play a particular chord or song) will require many days or even weeks of practice to master.

As you work on the course, it automatically keeps track of where you are. When finished with a lesson, click "Complete and Continue" to move on. You can always come back to past lessons, though.

The lessons include PDF worksheets, printables, chord charts, lyric sheets, and sheet music. You might find it easier to print out the entire set that you find included in the next "lecture."

Alternatively, you may look at all sheet music simply on the device you are using to play the video lesson and not print out anything!

Would you like to share what you're learning? Every lesson contains a "comment" section where you can upload a video of what you've learned during that lesson! We'd love to hear you playing chords and songs!

Finally, since every family is different in what you deem appropriate for your kids to watch or read, you may want to preview all videos and websites mentioned in this course ahead of time. I did feel these were appropriate for my elementary-aged children.

Why Learn to play the guitar?

Here are a number of benefits:

  • Builds hand-eye coordination and strengthens the use of left hand/right hand (much like piano lessons)
  • Develops listening skills
  • Helps students learn to read rhythms and play correct rhythms
  • Helps students learn to read chord charts
  • Gives students an instrument to play for life
  • Guitars are portable, making them a great instrument to learn to bring places.
  • Helps develop ensemble feeling/listening and helps them learn to hear harmonies
  • Teaches students to play with an accompaniment
  • Gives students the opportunity to learn to sing and play an instrument at the same time
  • Builds discipline & self-confidence
  • It can lead to flexibility to play other instruments such as electric guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, etc.
